A Sunday on the Senda Litoral: Rediscovering My Slice of the Coast

From Duquesa Port to Playa Paraiso

This past Sunday afternoon, I decided to slow things down and take a walk along the Senda Litoral, the coastal path that hugs the Mediterranean between Puerto de la Duquesa and Playa Paraíso. I’ve lived here for 23 years, raised my family here, and built my business here, but sometimes, even when you know a place so well, it’s worth seeing it again with fresh eyes. I am so glad I did.

This stretch of the coastline is more than just where I work, it’s where I’ve chosen to be. And every time I walk it, I’m reminded why I continue to fall in love with this corner of the Costa del Sol, again and again.

From Marina to Nature – An Unfolding Landscape

Starting at Puerto de la Duquesa, the path invites you straight into a postcard. The marina was buzzing that day, yachts bobbing in their berths, people enjoying lunches at the waterside restaurants. I passed by one of our super apartments for sale in Marina del Castillo and had a chat with the vendor. What an amazing place to own a home.
And on through to Los Castillos, the old fisherman’s area behind Duquesa, I was reminded of the area's roots, simple, traditional homes and a quiet, authentic feel that still reflects the coastal life of years gone by.

As I wandered past Chiringuito Andres y Maria, the smoky scent of sardines sizzling over the fire pit caught the breeze, one of those simple pleasures that never gets old. I made a mental note to return later for a drink and a bite.

From there, the boardwalk gently shifts into sandy paths and rocky outcrops. You feel the change almost immediately; it becomes quieter, more intimate. You pass long, wide beaches that most people drive right past, never knowing they’re there.

By the time I reached Playa Paraíso, it felt like I’d peeled back the layers of a place that’s often overlooked. Tucked away near Aldea Beach, Playa Paraíso lives up to its name, uncrowded, natural, and kissed by the open sea. It’s a place where time seems to slow down, and honestly, it’s a big reason why so many people who discover this area want to stay.

Beach Bars & Local Favourites

To my surprise, there’s no shortage of chiringuitos along this route, and each one has its own charm:

Chiringuito Andres y Maria – Right on the sand in Duquesa, this family-run spot serves up fresh fish, cold drinks, and real local atmosphere. You’ll always hear Spanish being spoken here, which is a good sign in my book.

Chiringuito Manilva Beach – Just a little further along, a touch more modern but equally relaxed. It’s perfect for long lunches and people-watching. Right next door, there is a new build development about to break ground. https://www.kiwiirealestate.com/property/nubay-duquesa-d387.  Love the new developments in the area or hate them, it is proving that this untapped area is catching the eye of investors.

Further along the walk, the beach bars became more rustic and less crowded, with two stand-out ones for me at Aldea Beach.

This mix of traditional and modern, relaxed and lively, is exactly what makes this area so special. You can dip into Spanish authenticity or enjoy more international comforts, whatever suits your mood that day.

Nature Along the Way

Walking this route, I was reminded how much natural beauty we’re lucky to have on our doorstep. Between Duquesa and Playa Paraíso, there are stretches of protected dunes, grasses, and open views that make you feel like you're somewhere far off the tourist map.

The path is popular with cyclists, runners, tourists and locals. But mostly, it was peaceful, just the sound of the waves and the scent of salt.

Why Buyers Are Drawn Here

As I walked, I thought about the conversations I’ve had recently with clients—many of them international, looking to relocate, invest, or find a holiday base. And every time I show them this stretch between Duquesa Port and Playa Paraíso, something clicks.

Here’s why:

The lifestyle is unbeatable – It’s laid-back but connected. You’re just minutes from the marina, golf courses, restaurants, and beach bars, but you also have nature and space to breathe.

The prices are still realistic – Compared to Marbella, Estepona or Sotogrande, this area offers real value for money without compromising on lifestyle.

It feels undiscovered—but not isolated – A sweet spot that’s getting noticed, but hasn’t lost its charm.

For families, retirees, remote workers, or investors looking for solid rental potential, this stretch of coastline has something for everyone.

A Place That Still Surprises Me

Even after all these years, I’m still discovering new corners of the place I call home. This walk reminded me that what we have here isn’t just beautiful, it’s real. It’s where life happens, where people say hello as they pass, where the sea is just there when you need it most.

If you’re thinking about buying along the coast, or just curious about what it’s really like to live here, go and walk this stretch. Let me show you not just the properties, but the soul of this area.
